Known as "bundled" golf membership, owning property at Pelican Sound entitles you to play golf on the award winning championship course with no greens fee, just a cart fee, if you take a cart. Pelican Sound is one of the few communities that allow residents to own their own golf carts (annual fee) for use on the golf course, going to the Club for dinner, or taking the grandchildren to catch the water taxi to the beach at Lovers Key. The golf course itself is renowned for it's challenge and beauty. Designed by Senior PGA Tour player Mike Hill together with architect Chip Powell, it is a course that is really fun for golfers of all skill levels. The course is maintained in impeccable condition, and the greens are true and fast due to the TifEagle grass, a hybrid Bermuda grass, which provides a much smoother, faster surface than traditional Bermuda grasses. The ACE Classic Senior PGA qualifier has been held at Pelican Sound for three years in a row and the pros were very complimentary about the course. There are 3 nine-hole courses, The Lakes, The River and The Sound courses, each with it's own set of challenges, but all interesting and fun to play. The on-site water taxi that offers residents excursions to Lovers Key beach on the Gulf of Mexico is an amenity that no other community has to offer. The community boat ramp gives residents access to launch their own boat to cruise down the scenic Estero River to the Bay and out to the Gulf, for a day's fishing or dolphin watching. There is even on-site boat storage available in Pelican Sound for a nominal fee. For the more adventurous, there are kayaks and canoes to enjoy the river in a more up close and personal way.
